Unconditional supporter – Dr. Nagaraj Naik
It gives me immense pleasure to write a few words about Dr. Vasudeva Sharma N.V. on the occasion of his 60th birthday. I still remember my first meeting with Dr. Sharma in 2009 at the Department of Social Work, Bangalore University, when both of us secured ranks in the Ph.D. entrance examination. During that time, I had heard about Mr.Sharma but had not met him in person. This opportunity brought us closer, allowing us to share ideas and work together on our Ph.D. research, social issues, and child rights. He would often share his valuable life experiences and many of our enriching discussions took place in his car while traveling to meet our Ph.D. guide, at the canteen or during special classes for students, and on many other occasions.
Over the years, what I have observed about Dr. Sharma is that he actively engages in community training, capacity-building initiatives and empowering others. Many times, he has discussed systemic issues that affect children’s lives and overall welfare. His collaborative work with government bodies, NGOs, and academic institutions along with his unwavering advocacy, ensures that child rights remain at the forefront of legislative and public discourse.
Even with his busy schedule, he always encourages young people to write, research, and involve themselves in community development. I am deeply thankful to Dr. Sharma for the valuable time he has given us advising, sharing ideas, and contributing to all three of our edited books. He was also kind enough to write the blurb for one of them. When we went to present the first copy to him, he humbly declined to accept it as a gift; instead, he insisted on paying for the copy and said, “Youngsters like you should write more and more”. He then shared valuable insights on writing and publication, offering several practical ideas for our future work.
Like above, I cherish many wonderful experiences and meaningful interactions with Dr. Sharma. His passion, humility, and lifelong dedication to child rights and social justice have been truly inspiring. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, I pray that God blesses him with good health, boundless energy, and continued wisdom to guide and empower many more people in the years ahead.
May his journey of compassion and service continue to inspire future generations to work for a just and child-friendly society.
