A Note on Vasudeva Sharma’s 60th Birthday – R. Venkat Reddy
If I remember correctly, it was in 1992 when I first met Vasu (I dearly call him Vasu) in Shankerpally Mandal, Ranga Reddy district, then in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, now part of Telangana. That was the time when the MV Foundation’s journey to Campaign Against Child Labour was just beginning. Vasu was then working with CRY (Child Relief and You), an organization founded by the late Rippan Kapoor.
He had come as a trainer on child rights for our grassroots activists, most of whom had just joined the movement. The insights and perspectives he shared in those early sessions left a deep and lasting impression on all of us. Even today, those imprints continue to shape our understanding of child rights.
Vasu was always friendly and deeply respectful towards grassroots workers. We had great fun watching him struggle to speak Telugu with his charming Kannada accent, but what stood out most was his determination to connect with us despite the language barrier. That was my first interaction with him, one that marked the beginning of a long association.
Since then, the journey has continued. His relentless work and unwavering commitment to the cause of child rights are truly inspiring. Vasu has been part of MVF’s long and successful journey, from its humble beginnings in Shankerpally to its global recognition and impact.
What I have always admired about him is his humility. He never gave us the impression that he was senior or more knowledgeable. He remained simple, approachable, and deeply grounded, especially with people working at the grassroots. I have met him many times since then, and his warm smile and gentle encouragement always motivate me to do more.
Vasu is a true team builder. Through his innovative efforts, he has inspired and nurtured countless teams that continue to work for children across the country.
Turning 60 is just a number for him — there’s always a child within Vasu. I wish him good health, happiness, and the joy of continuing to cherish and live his passion for children in the years ahead.
Wishing you, dear Vasu, good health, peace, and many more years of purposeful engagement. Your journey continues to inspire all who believe that every child deserves dignity, safety, and hope.
Warm regards,
- R. Venkat Redḑy, National Convener, M.V. Foundation, Hyderabad.
